Allspice is a sun dried berry that is native to the West Indies. It smells like a combination of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and ginger all at once. These whole berries are often used when preserving foods or ground to incorporate into rubs, baked goods and seasonings. It is a primary spice in Jamaican Jerk seasoning. These berries can also be boiled to make a tea to help with digestion.
Allspice has a multitude of uses, whether sweet or savory. As a whole seed it is often used in pickling blends for vegetables. When ground it can be used in pies, cakes and for seasoning meats.
